World Homeless Day is observed internationally on the 10th of October, Every Year.
This international day serves as a platform to celebrate good works, benchmark progress, advocate for improved policies and funding that can help prevent and end homelessness.
With this is mind we thought we would bring some facts surrounding the above in addition to a few words from our supporters.
As you will already know, homelessness and rough sleeping are pressing issues, with children being particularly vulnerable. What you may not know is that, as of March this year, there are 151,630 children in temporary accommodation, reflecting a 12% increase from March 2023. Research shows that such living conditions can significantly impact children’s education, social interactions, and overall health. In 2023, rough sleeping in England saw a notable rise, with an estimated 3,898 people sleeping rough on a single night in Autumn 2023, a 27% increase from the previous year. Local authority homelessness services are under increasing pressure due to a persistent shortage of affordable housing. Since 2010, 38% of supported accommodation services for single homeless individuals have closed, primarily due to over £1 billion in funding cuts.
Whilst we understand the ongoing challenges we are actively working to support those affected by/and the risk of being homeless. We continue to provide essential services such as community outreach, employment workshops, food bank, training, and we are working hard to provide support to create lasting solutions for individuals. With your help we are able to continue addressing both the immediate needs and long-term challenges faced by homeless individuals, so a big Thank you this World Homeless Day to all of our supporters and those who stand with us in making a positive impact for those that need us now.
