Here at Homeless House, what people do not always see is that, behind every food hamper delivered, every community event organised, every young person supported and every partnership developed is a team of volunteers who give their time, energy and skills to make a difference.
At Homeless House CIC, we know that supporting our community starts with supporting the people who make our work possible. That’s why opportunities to come together outside of day-to-day volunteering are so important.
Recently, members of our team attended the Super League Basketball Cup Finals at AO Arena as part of a volunteer team day. While the event itself was fantastic, the real value came from something much bigger than basketball.π
It was about connection. Volunteers who normally work on different projects had the opportunity to spend time together, build relationships and strengthen the sense of community that sits at the heart of our organisation.
For many grassroots charities, volunteers can often be focused on delivering support, attending meetings, organising events, responding to community needs, or simply working remotely. Taking time to celebrate, connect and enjoy being together can sometimes be overlooked. We believe those moments matter.
Strong teams are built through shared experiences, trust and genuine relationships. When volunteers feel connected to each other, they feel more confident, more supported and more able to contribute their skills and ideas.
Creating a positive volunteer experience is not separate from our mission, it is part of it.
Every conversation, every shared experience and every opportunity to come together helps strengthen the culture that allows Homeless House CIC to continue growing and delivering meaningful impact across Greater Manchester.
We are incredibly grateful to every volunteer who gives their time to support our work. Events like this are a reminder that while our mission is serious, building community should also be enjoyable.
Because when people feel valued, connected and supported, they are able to create even greater impact for others.
