International Women’s Day (IWD) is a global event dedicated to recognizing the achievements of women and advocating for gender equality. The theme for IWD 2024 is “#InspireInclusion”.
Therefore, we spoken to women from all background across our bank of volunteers, in many hostels, shelters and through our homeless services to understand how we could inspire them this International Women’s Day. From those conversations this IWD we:
Acknowledged Achievements: Recognising and celebrated the accomplishments of those women, whilst sharing there stories across various network’s.
Amplified Voices: we used our platforms to amplify women’s voices. Shared their perspectives, achievements, and challenges. Encouraging others not only listen but to learn from diverse female experiences.
Educating and Raising Awareness: we offered all women across many Manchester hostels and those in touch with our services and external partnerships the chance to be undergo a transformation, complete with hair and make up. Offering the women also to complete a training course in/or hair and beauty to upskill.
Supported Two Women-Owned Businesses: we collaborated with two salons to complete the above and by doing so, we contributed to their economic empowerment and success.
Mentorship and Networked: we advertised our mentor sports program (Educating the mind) which we partnered back in 2022 with the Fight Factory of Manchester, to even more young people, with our focus this week being solely on young women.
Celebrated Diversity: All whilst continuing to recognise that women come from diverse backgrounds, cultures, and identities. Embracing intersectionality and appreciating the unique contributions of all women.
